Ofyr grill

Lighting, cooking on the steel plate, and cleaning after use.

Ofyr grill in use

Our grill is an Ofyr: a steel fire bowl with a round cooking plate around the fire, no grates. Food cooks directly on the heated plate.

🔥 Prep

  1. Light the fire in the center of the bowl and let the steel plate heat up (about ten minutes).
  2. Before cooking, oil the plate with a paper towel and a little oil.

🥩 Cooking

  • The plate is hottest closer to the center (near the fire) and cooler toward the outer edge, so use that to control temperature.
  • A spatula and tongs are in the kitchen drawer (or right next to the grill).
  • Move food to the cooler edge of the plate to hold while you finish other items.

🧽 Cleaning

Please scrape food residue off while the plate is still warm: paper towel + spatula. That keeps it in good shape for the next guests.

🧱 The masonry barbecue

There’s also a built-in masonry barbecue with a hood and chimney by the house, a classic wood-fired option.

Masonry barbecue

  • Burn wood only, no lighter fluid.
  • Leave the ash in the firebox to cool; never tip it hot into a bin.

🏠 The grill house

The grill house from outside

Next to the grill there’s a covered grill house with a central fire pit and tables, usable in the rain and in winter.

Inside the grill house

  • Light fires only in the fire pit, never on the floor or the benches.
  • Keep the hood / chimney open while the fire is burning.
  • Never leave a fire unattended, and make sure it’s out before you go to bed.
