Finnish sauna

Switching it on, getting up to temperature, and the essential-oil ritual.

Important: Please read the safety rules carefully before use.

Finnish sauna

Our sauna has an electric Harvia heater: there’s no wood to light, you just switch it on.

🎛️ Switching it on

There are two round dials at the bottom of the heater:

  1. Left dial: timer. Turn it to a number on the first scale (e.g. 1–4) and the sauna starts immediately and runs for that many hours. The second scale (e.g. 1–8) is a delayed start: the sauna switches itself on after that many hours.
  2. Right dial: thermostat. Turn clockwise for more heat.

The sauna is ready in about 30–45 minutes. A comfortable temperature is 70–90 °C.

The heater switches itself off when the timer reaches zero, but please turn the timer back to 0 after use.

🔥 Steam and aromas

Pour water only over the stones, with the small ladle and in small amounts. Never pour water over the dials, the sides of the heater, or the floor.

Always dilute essential oils in the ladle water or in a small bowl among the stones. Never drip them straight onto the hot stones. 🌿

⏱️ Duration

We recommend up to 15 minutes per session, with a break and a cool-down in between.

⚠️ Safety

  • Use the sauna at your own risk.
  • Maximum 4 people at a time.
  • Shower before entering; a cold shower afterward is a nice way to cool down.
  • Remove jewellery and watches before entering, since metal heats up fast.
  • No phones, headphones or other electronics in the sauna.
  • Nothing on or next to the heater: a towel, clothing or wood left on a heater is the most common cause of sauna fires.
  • The heater and stones get very hot, so don’t touch them, even after switching off, until they’ve cooled.
  • Don’t bring food, drinks or alcohol into the sauna.
  • Children in the sauna only with an adult.
  • Drink water before and after; never after alcohol.
  • If you’re pregnant or have heart or blood-pressure problems, check with your doctor first.
  • If you feel dizzy or unwell, get out straight away and cool down.

🌒 After use

Turn the timer back to 0, leave the door slightly open so the sauna dries out, and take your towels with you. Thank you! 💚
